I Dreamed

Arden Lee

there were witches yesterday afternoon
and they brought out singing knives
told me that it would only hurt a little bit
told me just wait until the soup told me
that’ll sting real bad

you handed me a drink in the middle
of Laundromat said that it was on you
joke’s on you
poured over my head
laughed
because you said
because methanol leaves you blind

because thank you for the forest of on-fire
trees wasn’t enough because act like heat
wasn’t meant to drive me out because I jumped
off the cliff and I felt you falling next to me
even though it was just an air pocket

Arden Lee '17 is a sophomore creative writing/chemistry double major despite everyone telling her it was a crazy idea. Her "thing" in poetry is apparently adding in science, even though she swears she doesn't want to combine her majors in a career.
